An Introduction To Drums

Drums are percussion instruments that produce sound through striking, tapping, or rubbing. They are a typical example of rhythmic instruments. Their core structure typically includes the drum body (cavity), drumhead (skin), and mounting hardware (such as drum hoops and screws). Some drums also have a tuning system to adjust the pitch. Technically, drum sound production relies on the vibration of the drumhead. When a drumstick, hand, or other tool strikes the drumhead, the drumhead deforms and quickly recovers, causing air vibrations to form sound waves. The material, shape, and size of the drum body directly affect the resonance effect of the sound. For example, wooden drum bodies typically produce a warm, full tone, while metal drum bodies tend to be brighter and sharper.
