Can indoor playgrounds be modified

Indoor playgrounds can absolutely be modified. This is a common service that has emerged to meet the diverse needs of the children's playground market and adapt to changing venue conditions. Currently, the cost of indoor playground modification services varies considerably. Modifications for small, simple projects typically cost between 5,000 and 20,000 yuan, while the cost of demolishing and rebuilding medium to large-scale themed indoor playgrounds can reach 50,000 to 150,000 yuan, depending on the structural complexity, the amount of material replacement, and the functional upgrade requirements.

From a technical perspective, indoor playground modifications mainly involve three aspects: frame structure adjustment, replacement of soft padding materials, and addition or removal of functional modules. Frame modifications often use detachable connectors, such as aluminum alloy or galvanized steel pipes connected by snap-fit joints for quick assembly and disassembly. This structure allows for partial space reorganization without the need for complete dismantling. Soft padding material replacement focuses on environmental protection and safety upgrades. For example, traditional EPE pearl cotton is upgraded to a high-density XPE cushioning layer, and benzene-containing adhesives are replaced with hot melt adhesives, which improves cushioning performance and meets new national standards. Functional module adjustments are the most flexible direction for modification. This can involve adding climbing areas, interactive projection walls, motion-sensing games, AR treasure hunts, and other digital equipment, or splitting the toddler and children's areas according to age groups, achieving "one castle, multiple uses" through modular combinations.

Regarding application scenarios, changes in venue size are the primary motivation for modification. For example, a 300㎡ indoor playground might be reduced to 200㎡ due to mall adjustments, requiring space-saving optimization through structures such as folding slides and embedded ball pits. If the venue expands, it can be upgraded to a double-layer structure or have areas for simulated driving or role-playing added. Seasonal theme changes are also a modification requirement, such as incorporating forest elements in spring and adopting an ice and snow theme in winter, quickly updating the atmosphere by changing the soft padding patterns or adding lighting devices.

Industry standards set clear requirements for modifications. According to the "Safety Specifications for Children's Play Equipment" GB/T 34272-2017, the load-bearing structure of the modified equipment must be recalculated mechanically, the thickness of the soft padding should not be less than 25mm, and functional components must pass 5000 consecutive impact tests. It is important to note that modifications must be carried out by units holding special equipment installation and maintenance qualifications. Unauthorized modifications will not only fail the annual inspection but may also create safety hazards.

In practice, the modification process can be divided into five steps. First, needs communication: confirming core elements such as budget, theme, and new functions with the vendor; second, structural assessment: measuring parameters such as the original frame's load-bearing capacity and passageway dimensions; third, plan development: including 3D renderings, a materials list, and a construction schedule quote; fourth, on-site construction: taking care to protect existing usable components; and finally, acceptance testing: focusing on checking the tightness of component connections, cushioning performance, and equipment stability. If the original indoor playground has been in use for more than 3 years, it is recommended to replace worn-out springs, fixing bolts, and other easily damaged parts to ensure the structural safety after modification.
